The simple answers before you start.
You can begin with one container, no printer, and no moving project. Here is how BoxCue works today.
Can I use BoxCue without a printer?
Yes. You can create containers, add items and photos, organize Places and Areas, and search your inventory without printing anything. A QR label is optional and can be added later.
Do I need to start a move?
No. BoxCue works as an everyday household inventory for closets, garages, storage units, and seasonal belongings. A Move, Storage, or Organize project is optional and can include only the containers you choose.
Does BoxCue work only with boxes?
No. You can track boxes, bins, bags, crates, furniture, and other physical containers or belongings.
What information is inside a QR code?
A BoxCue QR contains a random, opaque BoxCue address. It does not contain item names, photos, household IDs, email addresses, street addresses, or database IDs. Detailed inventory still requires an authorized household account.
Can I prepare labels before packing?
Yes. You can generate and print unused labels as a batch, attach them while packing, and connect each label to a container when you are ready. You can also reprint an attached label or replace a damaged one with an unused label.
Do I need Avery-brand labels?
No. BoxCue uses physical label dimensions rather than requiring one brand. Choose stock that matches a supported size and sheet layout, or enter carefully measured custom geometry. Always test on plain paper at 100% or Actual Size first.
Can I share an inventory with my household?
Yes. A household owner can invite trusted people. Members see and update the same household inventory, and one account may belong to more than one separate household.
Will changes appear on my other devices?
When devices are online, BoxCue synchronizes committed household changes and checks for updates when an installed app returns to the foreground. A manual refresh is also available.
Does BoxCue work offline?
A recently synchronized installed app can provide private read-only access to cached inventory for a limited authorization period. Creating or changing inventory, uploading photos, signing in, and accepting invitations require an internet connection.
Does BoxCue track a truck or container with GPS?
No. BoxCue records the Place, Transport, position, tracking reference, or notes entered by household members. It does not provide GPS, carrier tracking, Apple Find My, RFID location, or guaranteed real-time location.
Can BoxCue scan store barcodes such as UPC or EAN?
Not currently. The scanner recognizes BoxCue QR labels. Product-barcode support requires a separate identifier and matching design so different products are not merged by mistake.
Are photos and item lists public when someone scans a label?
No. Detailed contents and private photos are available only after sign-in and household authorization. Printed labels may show mover-safe details such as a container number, destination Area, and handling instructions.
How do I install BoxCue?
BoxCue is a progressive web app. Install it from app.boxcue.app using Add to Home Screen on iPhone or iPad, Install app on Android, or the install option in a supported desktop browser. You can also use it without installing.
Can I delete my account and data?
Yes. Account Security includes permanent account deletion. Household owners can also delete a household. Shared-household safeguards may require transferring ownership before an owner can delete their account.
How much does BoxCue cost?
BoxCue is currently being qualified as a private beta. Public pricing, paid plans, and physical-label sales have not been announced. BoxCue will show any future price and purchase terms before charging anyone.
